With golf courses getting longer and longer gas powered carts are becoming more of an essential than a luxury.

Golf is a glorious game but if you are carrying a 50lb bag around a 7000 yard course plus green to tee it becomes an almost military workout.

Gas powered golf carts have been around for years but it was generally only the better off that could afford one, nowadays the prices have fallen into the range of nearly all of us.

This is for two reasons, firstly the carts are generally well made and have better four stroke engines so they last longer and secondly the cost of a gas powered golf cart has fallen so new cars are selling more and the second hand market is swollen by the carts being replaced.

The drawback with the gas carts is the emissions and some areas are placing strict controls on these with the result that in some places gas carts are effectively banned.

Another problem is the noise, whereas an electric golf cart is virtually silent the thrum of a gas cart is definitely noticeable. Some golf clubs are starting to be very aware of noise pollution.

However if you are in an area where these carts are acceptable a gas powered cart is a good buy. The trouble with electric carts is if you forget to charge it properly you can be stuck with no outlet in sight.

No such problem with the gas cart, maybe just a long walk to the station for a can of gas. The variety of gas powered golf carts is amazing with basic jobs proliferating there is now a market for custom carts that range from Hummer lookalikes to stretch limo carts.

The gas powered golf cart is not just for the golf course, with the explosion in retirement villages and golf villages a cart almost replaces the family car on a day to day basis.

Many gas powered golf carts come with a roof and a stowage area for the trip to the store again making the cart a sensible financial investment.
